Leeds has more city centre restaurants today than ever before but there are still some gems tucked away in the suburbs if you take the trouble to seek them out. Morenos, at the edge of Temple Newsham, is one such establishment. Morenos is the only authentic Moroccan restaurant in Yorkshire. As well as the local clientele, it attracts plenty of custom from all over the country, with fans of Moroccan food regularly making the journey.

For the last five and a half years, Morenos' success has resulted from the delicious mystery of Moroccan cuisine. Ingredients are always fresh, carefully prepared and marinated, and then cooked slowly using traditional Moroccan spices and methods. Tagines, with their shallow terracotta pots, are one of many specialties, along with a variety of lamb, fish and chicken dishes. Not to be forgotten, the Moroccan national dish, harira and cous cous is an excitingly different dish, especially for customers with no previous experience of Moroccan cuisine.

In addition, this little gem of a place offers a fantastic range of tapas linking Morocco and Spain, with dishes from grilled sardines to paella. The menu offers other well-known dishes such as duck and fillet steak. An enjoyable and relaxing evening is guaranteed for everyone with a large Moroccan wine and beer list. Menu prices range from £9.95 to £13.95. An early bird menu is available before 7.30pm, and from Tuesday to Thursday a three-course meal is just £9.95. A two-course Sunday lunch is also just £9.95. There is currently planning for an extension with better access for disabled diners as well as plenty of parking spaces.

Morenos is an exceptionally welcoming and friendly place. A visit is an absolute must.
