If someone asked you to picture a restaurant that looked a million dollars, chances are you would imagine something exactly like The Royal Baths. Gloriously refurbished, there can only be one word for this setting - beautiful. Inside you'll find a harmony of East meets West, with clean, elegant lines, gold flourishes against crisp white walls, stained-glass windows and giant Chinese urns. You'll want to don your glad rags to dine at this stylish establishment.

A grand, columned entrance leads expectant diners into the spacious restaurant. Flanked with golden columns and sweeping archways, the dining area is nevertheless a tranquil space and one in which it is easy to relax and enjoy the fine food on offer. The menu is as grand as the surroundings, with varying choices for every time of the day. Perhaps enjoy a spot of lunch with friends and choose from the set lunch menus, or bring along the family for the Sunday lunch buffet as an end-of-the-week treat. If you're looking to impress, this is certainly the place to bring a date. If, like me, you are a fan of dim sum, you'll be pleased to find a whole menu to whet your appetite, including everything from steamed prawns and roast barbecue pork to sweet treats in the form of steamed custard buns and sweet pumpkin parcels.

Start with a platter of mixed hors d'oeuvres comprising barbecue spare ribs brushed with honey, Malaysian chicken satay, sesame prawn toast, shredded duck rolls and crispy seaweed. That's just to get you started before an intermediate helping of duck pancakes, followed by the main event - sumptuous sweet-and-sour pork Cantonese with stir-fried chicken, mushrooms and satay sauce, accompanied by seasonal Chinese greens and rice.

If the weather's fine, step outside for some alfresco dining on the outdoor terrace. If visiting for a special occasion, take advantage of the Champagne bar or one of the two private dining rooms for a more intimate affair.
