40 Downing Street, Farnham, GU9 7PH
The Banaras isn't your usual Indian restaurant. It may be old in years (having stood on Farnham's Downing Street since 1988), but it certainly isn't outdated; the decor alone tells us that. Vibrant mauve walls contrast with crisp white table linen and high-backed brown chairs, and vibrant contemporary wall prints are softened by a simple single red rose at each table. The listed building is full of character, offering three unique and recently refurbished dining rooms. There are two cosy restaurant areas and a function room, and up to 54 people can be seated.

The new, extensive menu features both modern Indian cuisine and traditional Indian favourites. Tandoori and barbecue grill dishes make delicious use of the wide range of fish, chicken and lamb on offer. Balti specialities and biryani dishes also prove popular choices and, of course, there's a large selection of vegetable dishes too. Wednesdays see a special buffet night offering any starter, main course and naan for an amazing £11.95. The same great value offer applies on Sundays, when booking is essential. And to wash down your food' A good selection of wines, plus chilled Kingfisher and Cobra beers, confirm The Banaras as the ideal choice to enjoy the finest authentic Indian cuisine.
