The Station Hotel
Station Road, Birstwith, HG3 3AG
There are few places that provide such a complete package as The Station Hotel. Located in a pretty Yorkshire village on the outskirts of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this hotel and restaurant offers comfortable accommodation and food so good you won’t need to venture further afield. We visited one winter’s evening to dine for a cosy meal for two and The Station’s restaurant more than lived up to our expectations. The staff were warm and friendly and introduced us to the specials and a wide range of quality drinks, including a varied wine list and well-stocked bar of cask ales. It was evident from the start of our visit that emphasis is placed on fresh, seasonal produce. Seafood dishes come highly recommended and I can testify to the quality. My starter of scallops, served on a bed of watercress dressed with homemade pesto and crispy bacon, demonstrated a balance of fresh flavours. I followed this with steak cooked exactly to my preference, served with grilled tomatoes still on the vine and a creamy Stilton sauce. It was a classic dish cooked with flair. The Station Hotel ably caters for all tastes, with an à la carte menu alongside traditional options and ever-changing specials. Vegetarians always find plenty to choose from, and I highly recommend saving room for one of the delicious desserts. If you’re looking to discover the dramatic Yorkshire countryside and enjoy the wonderful produce grown and reared in this part of the country, The Station Hotel should be on your bucket list.
