Stainland Road, Stainland, Nr. Halifax, HX4 9HF
Set in the lovely village of Stainland, just outside Halifax, The Duke of York is a gem indeed. Originally built in the mid-1700s, this is a spacious and impressive building with striking decor, featuring a mix of traditional and modern elements. You'll find a stone-built bar, exposed brickwork and walls painted an atmospheric deep red. The dining area has wooden flooring, stylish seating and extends into a conservatory, which looks out over the beer garden to the rolling countryside beyond.

The bar offers plenty of refreshments to accompany your meal, with up to four Cask Marque-accredited real ales on tap and the usual bottled beers, wines and soft drinks. Home-cooked food is a speciality here - Maria is a creative cook and bases her food on top-quality produce (most of which is sourced locally), supplying something to cosset every palate. The appetising choices include superb homemade pies, sausage and mash, lasagne, fisherman's pie and much more. The light-bite menu features favourites such as gammon with egg and chips, and liver and sausage casserole with mash, to name just two.

The presence of relaxing sofas in the lounge area, next to a comforting log-burning fire, completes a thoroughly enjoyable experience at The Duke of York
