The Brasserie at the Bull
The Brasserie at the Bull is a modern, spacious pub and restaurant spread across two floors with an additional basement bar. The beautiful decor provides a luxurious boutique feel, and the ambience is simultaneously relaxed and opulent. The staff were enthusiastic, friendly and professional throughout our visit. On arrival, we were seated in a candlelit window nook with sheer drapes, velvet seats and a great view of the tropical fish tank.
The extensive menus included an enticing à la carte, a fixed-price selection, a classic wine list and daily specials such as crab ravioli, sea bass and pork belly. I selected from the set menu – excellent value for money at £15.95 for three sumptuous courses. The meal comprised fragrant Thai vegetable stir fry, followed by a generous fillet of herb-crusted hake with garlic pomme purée, crispy pancetta and mushrooms. My partner opted for the tasty chicken and chorizo pie from the main menu to start, before selecting braised lamb shank with mash and sweet red wine jus. We were also served a lovely side of seasonal vegetables to share. For dessert we plumped for the steamed puddings – irresistible on such a cold day. Both the sticky toffee and coconut jam sponge were a triumph. The Brasserie is family-friendly and caters for large bookings as well as intimate tables for two. We were so glad to discover this gem in the centre of Halifax, and we’re sure you’ll love it too.
