When I have a hankering for Indian food nothing else will do - it's a craving that cannot be abated by anything but a visit to a good curry house. If you find yourself in a similar position, then Shimlas may well be the answer.

This dependable curry house is welcoming, comfortable and stylish, and has a relaxed, sociable ambience, making it a great spot for dinner with friends. Equally though, with a warm colour palette, low level lighting and cosy tables for two, it's also perfect for a quiet dinner with someone special.

After drinks have been ordered and you've begun tucking into the obligatory poppadoms with Shimlas' tasty chutneys, it's time to think about how you're going to kick off the evening's culinary entertainment. Thanks to Shimlas' philosophy of using only the best-quality, freshest ingredients, the food here is consistently good. Age-old recipes are employed by the chefs to ensure dishes are authentic and stay true to South Asian tradition. The Shimlas mantra is the 'taste of tradition', and the cuisine produced from this belief even attracts the likes of One Direction's Zayn Malik.

Bearing that in mind, you could probably pick anything from the list of starters and be more than pleased with the outcome, but I like to start proceedings with a king prawn tikka or keema samosa. Moving on, as I'm not the biggest fan of fiery fare, the creamy chicken mughali, which features chicken tikka cooked with coconut, sultanas and egg is a winning main course, as is the keema karahi. Shimlas' signature dish of chicken tikka, prepared with onions, tomatoes, peppers, coriander and Himalayan spices is also worth a look. For a tasteful take on a guilty pleasure, look to the list of donners; I've heard great things about the chicken donner here, which comprises succulent, boneless chicken, prepared with Eastern spices and served on fresh naan.

Finish off with a traditional falooda for dessert, or, if you've out-spiced yourself with your curry and are struggling to take the heat, opt for a cooling desi shake. Popular Indian beverages, these shakes come in a multitude of flavours, and will satisfy your sweet tooth while soothing your palate.
