Bradford's remarkable Prashad may look unassuming, but its simple facade hides an extraordinary Indian gem that has garnered extensive praise, including the plaudits of Gordon Ramsay. Kaushy, Mohan, Minal and Bobby Patel have astounded an international stage with their tantalising dishes, with visitors coming from across the continents to sample their stupendous yet simple vegetarian food.

Prashad, Bradford's only AA-rosetted restaurant, was nominated Ramsay's 'Best Indian Restaurant' in 2010, and was a finalist in the overall 'Best Restaurant' category. It was also Yorkshire Life's 'International Restaurant of the Year' in 2010, and in 2011 was honoured with a civic reception at City Hall to mark its culinary achievements. Naturally, we couldn't wait to visit. Our outstanding shared mixed starter, complete with dhokla - a savoury sponge cake steamed and garnished with a mustard-seed dressing - was possibly the most inventive Indian food I have tasted. My guest's masala dosa, a large rice-flour crepe filled with cool coconut and served alongside spicy lentil soup and yoghurt chutney, was delectable; and equally mouth-watering was Prashad's Special Chaat with yoghurt, chick peas, potato and tamarind.

The Prashad Lounge is a lovely place to wait in anticipation of the fabulous food to be enjoyed in the main restaurant. But despite the outstanding zing the dishes provide, the warmth of service - with a personal welcome from Kaushy to all diners - is what really brings the true feel of India to this gastronomic treasure
