Within walking distance of beautiful Warwick Castle, the Warwick Arms Hotel is a great place to stay when exploring this wonderfully historic city. It's just as pleasant for whiling away an afternoon after a morning's sightseeing. The inn has been a part of Warwick life since the 17th Century and was once owned by the Earl of Warwick. Yet behind this charming and traditional exterior lies a modern and luxurious hotel and restaurant.

Here you'll find a classic menu filled with homely dishes and modern British favourites, all created with a Warwick Arms twist. Start an evening meal with mussels, bacon, onion and parsley in a white wine and cream sauce or perhaps a large field mushroom with a goat's cheese and herb crumb topping - simply divine. When it comes to mains, the choice is endless - from delicious dishes such as braised lamb with redcurrant and rosemary dumplings to medallions of beef fillet with peppercorn sauce. Lighter dishes, like oven-roasted fillet of salmon with sautéed potatoes and spinach served with tarragon and white wine sauce, are also designed to delight. In fact, the fish offerings at the Warwick Arms come highly
recommended, whether it be battered cod and chips or lemon and cracked black pepper scampi. And diners watching the pennies can order fish and chips for two and a bottle of wine for just £20.

Pop in for a cup of tea or a freshly brewed coffee during the day and I challenge you not to be tempted by the lunch menu. My friend and I had been catching up over drinks, thoroughly settled in the comfortable atmosphere, when we caught sight of a steak salad served up to a couple on the next table; tempting beef fillet medallions drizzled with a honey and wholegrain mustard glaze. It had my mouth watering and we wholeheartedly agreed to extend our quick drink to a leisurely lunch. Soon tempura battered king prawns with a sweet chilli dipping sauce and a smoked haddock salad were winging their way over to us. My bowl, filled with delicate fillet of lightly smoked haddock amidst leafy greens, black pudding, crispy bacon and sautéed potatoes and topped with a warm poached egg, was simply one of the best lunches I have enjoyed in a long time.
