It’s impossible to walk past Basement Browns without the delicious smell of freshly baked pizza enticing you inside. While travelling through Italy and the USA, the owners noticed that local pizzerias weren’t simply restaurants but social hubs, the place you’d head to after work to unwind or just pop into during the day for a quick snack. Seeing this inspired the brothers to bring a slice back to their hometown of Leamington Spa, and so Basement Browns was launched. They subsequently opened a site in Coventry, where it has also had a fantastic reception.
The team is truly passionate about pizza, priding itself on producing authentic food that is both delicious and healthy. Ingredients are sourced primarily from Italy, and everything is cooked in the traditional stone oven. Try the scrumptious pepperoni pizza made with authentic salsiccia Napoli piccante, or the delectable pulled roast chicken breast pizza. The dough has been artfully mastered over years of practice and experimentation, and the hard work has certainly paid off. It’s lovingly made on-site every day and slowly fermented over 72 hours – which, according to Basement Browns, makes it easier digest. The results are superb. Even the chips are stone-baked; they’re cooked at a blistering 350 degrees, resulting in crisp on the outside, fluffy in the middle perfection.
Time spent in Italy didn’t just inspire these guys to make mouth-watering pizza, they also honed their coffee knowledge too, making Basement Browns the ideal place for your morning pick-me-up. Combine your cappuccino with a Sicilian cannoli or a mozzarella and sundried tomato toastie and you’re in for a treat. For real pizza afi cionados, the team offers the BB breakfast, which comprises signature hand-stretched dough topped with a free-range egg, sausage, bacon, mozzarella and a choice of free extras. Since opening in summer 2015, Basement Browns has cemented itself as the area’s go-to pizzeria for its authentic, delicious food and laid-back, communal setting. With glowing reports from customers and two PAPA Industry Gold Awards under its belt, it looks like Basement Browns is fast becoming a local institution. Buon appetito.
