No.44 Brasserie on The Waterside
For a room with a view, dine at No.44 Brasserie on The Waterside. With Stratford-upon-Avon’s renowned Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the River Avon as your backdrop, the scene is immediately set for a memorable experience. The restaurant, which offers award-winning two-AA-rosette cuisine, can be found at the contemporary boutique Arden Hotel.
In a new concept, The Brasserie offers both a tapas and à la carte menu. From the à la carte menu we began with the pressing of ham hock, homemade piccalilli and toasted ciabatta and, for my dining partner, local venison presented beautifully with Carpaccio, pickled onion, Berkswell cheese and 12-year-old balsamic vinegar. I then moved on to savour the most mouth-watering Hereford beef fillet, served with celeriac fondant, pickled walnut and smoked bone marrow sauce; it proved to be one of the most delicious cuts of meat I’ve enjoyed for some time. My husband’s honey-roasted Barbary duck breast, accompanied by thyme polenta and citrus-braised chicory, was equally flavoursome. The final act in the heart of Shakepespeare’s England brought cinnamon mini doughnuts with hazelnut cream and a dark chocolate tart with pistachio ice cream. This was all accompanied by fine wine from an extensive selection.
There are also rather tempting Sunday lunch and afternoon tea menus, including one for younger diners. Excellent, friendly service and a truly delightful ambience make this restaurant an absolute must-visit.
