While Spanish paradors are hotels in palaces, fortresses and monasteries, Bromsgrove's Parador is a restaurant overlooking the soft, rolling Lickey Hills, nevertheless echoing Spanish elegance in its architecture and decor.

The restaurant welcomes local diners and travellers and buzzes with business guests. The popular à la carte menu offers a wide choice, while a concise chef's selection is available at £15 for two courses or £20 for three. Their Sunday lunch offering is also a steal, priced at £13.95 for three courses.

After some deliberation, I began the meal with a starter of lime and coriander crabcakes that were crisp on the outside and succulent on the inside and came served with a tangy mango salsa to perk up the flavours. My partner's lobster cocktail with brandy mayonnaise and lobster bisque jelly was generous and beautifully presented. For mains our potato gnocchi in spinach, cherry tomatoes and goat's cheese combined Mediterranean flavours brilliantly, and the fillet steak with roasted garlic and pepper sauce was juicy beef of the highest standard, set off by fresh vegetables and a smooth sauce.

Replete, we couldn't help but press on with the delectable desserts. The iced apple soufflé with caramelised apple and dark chocolate pot with white chocolate ice cream looked good and tasted even better, finishing our meal very nicely indeed.
