With rich, tempting aromas emanating from the charcoal grill, and atmospheric lighting and ornate furnishings surrounding us as we sat down to peruse the menu, the scene was set for an evening of authentic Middle Eastern dining. An array of tempting Lebanese and Moroccan delights is available, including excellent options for vegetarians, and every dish is freshly prepared in the large open kitchen.

I began my foray to the Middle East with batata harrah, comprising potato cubes fried in an aromatic mix of garlic, chilli and red peppers. My companion just had to try the classic falafel, featuring deep-fried beans, chickpeas and herbs, served with a fragrant tahini dip. Next up was shish taouk - chicken cooked on the charcoal grill in garlic, lemon juice and mixed spices and served on a skewer, with a side of light, fl uffy rice - and shawarma, a generous platter of sliced chicken served with pitta bread and salad.

If you still have an appetite after the plentiful portions that Bader offers, there is a tempting dessert counter offering all manner of sweet treats, including traditional baklava pastries stuffed with chopped nuts and honey. The restaurant was very busy on the weekday night when we visited - it seems Bader's combination of hospitable service, authentic cuisine and a relaxed ambience is a winning one. *Price range represents the cost of a two-course meal (no alcohol permitted on site)
