Owing to its homely, welcoming surrounds – designed after the fashion of a traditional Thai home, or chai ka – Birmingham’s Pad Thai restaurant and karaoke bar puts guests at ease from the moment they arrive.

Here, genuine Thai hospitality abounds. Guests are greeted with warmth before being shown to tables to begin perusing an à la carte that pairs a wide range of enticing Thai fare – spanning chicken, pork, beef, lamb and vegetable dishes – with an ample list of house specialities and pan Asian delights. Begin with a traditional Thai soup or light salad before moving onto courses of twice-cooked marinated beef, deep-fried then slow-cooked in hot bean sauce with lotus root; or Thai-style chargrilled chicken served with sweet chilli sauce. For afters, why not sample from the selection of authentic treats like mango sticky rice or pandanus leaf cake – a popular Thai coconut cream dessert prepared with taro, sweetcorn and sago and wrapped in pandanus leaves.

Pad Thai’s set menus are perfect for group bookings, eliminating the stress from the ordering process and enabling the kitchen team to prepare top-notch Thai cuisine for large gatherings of friends and family. Begin with helpings of crispy aromatic duck with pancakes before pressing onto wok-fried lobster in dried chilli and tomato sauce, freshly caught fish stir-fried with ginger and spring onions, and stir-fried butter lamb with black pepper sauce, all enjoyed with plentiful servings of egg fried rice.

The bar stocks a curated list of wine – some served by the glass, some by the bottle – as well as several popular brands of East Asian bottled beer and Western draught beer. There’s also a captivating list of house cocktails straddling sour-and-fruity and sweet-and-creamy concoctions.

When you arrive at Pad Thai, plan to settle in for a while. After 10.30pm the restaurant area transforms into a lively karaoke lounge. Relax with friends, catch up over cocktails and take the stage to perform renditions over your favourite songs until well into the night. Alternatively, the restaurant is home to five private karaoke booths for boy bands and girl groups that aren’t quite ready for their public debut.
