Mr White’s English Chophouse
Mr White’s English Chophouse is the perfect place to enjoy a glamorous evening meal. It is situated at the heart of the stylish Hotel La Tour, and is a haven of elegant decor, amazing cuisine and faultless service. Every detail has been considered to ensure all who visit receive a wonderful dining experience.
After being seated, our waiter introduced himself and presented us with the menu. We were guided through the dishes, his knowledge of provenance and the accompanying wine list thoroughly impressing us. To start I chose Welsh rarebit made with toasted sourdough and served with poached eggs, while my partner opted for the beetroot salad, which included goat’s cheese beautifully offset by sweet candied walnuts. The course proved a beautiful example of how simple ingredients can be combined to create remarkable cuisine. From the main menu I enjoyed a generous portion of macaroni and wild mushrooms, topped with a perfectly poached egg. It was a great interpretation of one of my favourite dishes, and I devoured every bite. My partner plumped for the restaurant’s speciality, steak. He chose the tender 10oz rib-eye cut, which was aged for 28 days by Royal Warrant-holders Aubrey Allen. Served rare, to his preference, it was lovely and tender, enhanced by grilled vine tomatoes and moreish triple-cooked chips. Both dishes boasted a perfect balance of flavours and textures, but weren’t so filling as to keep us from sampling from the desserts offering. I had chocolate brownie partnered with vanilla ice cream, which proved a truly indulgent finale. Rice pudding filled with juicy apricots was my partner’s choice, and from his silence throughout the course I can only presume it was delicious.
All in all, Mr White’s English Chophouse is a place where food is simple yet of the highest quality. Our meal was completed by the warm welcome we received from the experienced team and the buzzing atmosphere created by the surrounding diners enjoying their meals. Needless to say we will return soon.
