Any venue that has its own director of music clearly has a love of music at its core, and The Jam House has none other than Jools Holland doing the honours. The award-winning Jam House, conceived as an idea by the legendary pianist, comprises two bars, a restaurant upstairs and a stage for live performances. Seated at any table in the restaurant, the stage and piano are in clear view, and The Jam House is rightly proud that live music is performed here every night.

With the quality of live entertainment on offer, ordinarily it might be easy for the accompanying food to fade into the background, but here the varied international menu ensures that your meal is very much a memorable part of your evening. The menu is changed seasonally, and the service is relaxed but friendly and attentive, perfectly complementing the smart and sophisticated location.

We chose an interesting mix from the menu for our meals (£25 for two courses, £28 for three). The smoked salmon and trout with pancake was a fine start, as was the flavoursome vegetarian pizzetta. For our main courses, the generous portion of sea bass was superbly prepared, as was the slow cooked pork belly, rich with oriental flavours.

For dessert, and it is definitely worth the extra inches to your waistline, a wise choice is the selection for two people to share. These miniature desserts from the menu are all delicious but the chocolate tart and cheesecake deserve a special mention.

Eating at The Jam House is more of an experience than a typical restaurant meal, and is certainly one that you will remember for longer than most. Enjoy.
