Henry Wong is a well-regarded name in Birmingham. Its doors opened over 20 years ago and to this day it impresses people of all ages, whether they've stopped by for a party or a business lunch.

This restaurant really is at the top of its game when it comes to authentic Canton dining. From the food to the exclusive surroundings, every aspect of this restaurant is slick and contemporary, while a recent facelift has transformed and revitalised the business no end. The makeover included a new cocktail bar and a terraced area, perfect for alfresco dining during the summer.

We started with yuk sung with shredded shitake mushrooms - a classic dish and one of my favourites. It was quite possibly the best version of this dish I've ever tasted. Our mains were equally enticing. I loved the crispy shredded tofu with Oriental sauce, the honey peppers and water chestnuts, and the vegetarian Singapore noodles. My partner revelled in the sirloin steak with teriyaki sauce, succulent garlic butter prawns with Vietnamese-style chilli-pepper sea bass and yang chow fried rice. From the comprehensive wine selection we enjoyed a beautiful bottle of Laxas, a truly special Galician white wine that's fruity and gentle.

The attentive and helpful staff ensure you are looked after from the moment you walk in, their excellent service only adding to a growing realisation that you'll be back to sample more from this exceptional restaurant
