At the centre of Birmingham's Chinatown stands Chung Ying, a restaurant that has a well-deserved reputation as one of the city's best Chinese restaurants. Chung Ying is generally considered to have been the catalyst for the development of Chinatown. Since the restaurant was established over 30 years ago, much has changed in this now very popular area of Birmingham. It is this vibrant history which has helped make Chung Ying one of the city's best-loved restaurants.

With strong links to the Chinese community, Chung Ying has achieved the tricky balance of appealing to the full breadth of the public. Owner James Wong and his knowledgeable culinary team create dishes that can be enjoyed by diners of all ages and origins. By using traditional cooking methods, the food served incorporates all the authentic flavours of Hong Kong. The expansive menu offers classic favourites, exotic cuts and fresh seafood, as well as a selection of imaginative vegetarian options.

A meal here might begin with Peking-style chicken wings, steamed in-the-shell scallops with ginger and spring onion, or spare ribs with salt and chilli. Continue with a meaty main like beef fried in satay sauce, Cantonese-style fillet of beef, Szechuan-style chicken, or, for something really different, ostrich pan-fried in mixed chilli. Fish fans, meanwhile, will be more than satisfi ed with the likes of crab served in the shell cooked with ginger and spring onion, sweet and sour sea bass steak, or squid fried in a spicy sauce.

On Colmore Row you'll find the newest edition to the family, Chung Ying Central, and situated around the corner at 17 Thorp Street is sister restaurant, Chung Ying Garden. Chung Ying Garden is one of the largest Chinese restaurants in the Midlands, catering for over 400 people. Private function rooms are available for those celebrating, providing the opportunity for some singing and dancing, as well as for corporate events. These are three fantastic restaurants in one central location
