China Court

China Court

Chinese and East Asian

0.5 miles
24 Ladywell Walk, Birmingham, B5 4ST
In the heart of Birmingham's Chinatown is a restaurant that would be at home over 5000 miles away, amid the bustling streets of Beijing. Diners visiting China Court feel instantly transported to the far corners of East Asia by the authentic atmosphere and tempting aromas emanating from the kitchen. The restaurant has recently been refurbished to include a karaoke bar, making China Court not only a place to enjoy a delicious meal, but a fun night out too. Book a private sound-proof room and enjoy first-class service and the perfect party atmosphere.

It's not hard to see why China Court is loved by all who visit - this restaurant is popular with the local Chinese community and just one look at the menu is enough to get your mouth watering. China Court offers a wide range of traditional Chinese dishes featuring familiar favourites, such as beef in black bean sauce and sweet and sour crispy chicken, and dishes you may not have seen before. We were pleased to be introduced to a selection of Chinese hot pots and traditional dim sum by our helpful waiter. The team here is welcoming and friendly, and whatever your dietary needs you'll find an accommodating attitude.

A mixed platter got us under way, with all of our favourites, including spring rolls and spare ribs, cooked perfectly and bursting with freshness. After admitting to our personable waitress that I had never tried dim sum before, she soon brought us a couple to try. It was absolutely divine - if all dim sum is as tasty as China Court's then I will definitely be having it again. The mains followed the example set by the starters. My companion's fried sliced duck with chilli in black bean sauce was a punchy dish and brilliantly executed - the duck was wonderfully tender and the sauce full of flavour. I plumped for the special fillet of sea bass, and have to say it was one of the most delicious fish dishes I have ever tasted.

Dessert is not something I usually indulge in at a Chinese restaurant, but China Court has its own on-site bakery. Numerous cakes, biscuits and desserts are baked fresh daily and are worth saving room for. We sampled a small selection of delectable pastries and will certainly be back for more. I can heartily recommend China Court for an excellent meal out, whether you've been hitting the nearby shops or fancy a bite to eat before or after a show at the Hippodrome
