Their wine list allows you to explore a wide spectrum of bins from various countries and regions, and I loved the idea of their open cellar, where a selection of wines are kept as the grower intended, avoiding corking or oxidisation of the wines and ensuring that they are kept and served at the perfect temperature. You can sample the fruits of these barrels by the glass, or choose from three different sized carafes to share with friends.
Whilst browsing through the menu I enjoyed a really special Aspalls blush cider with blackcurrant from Suffolk, and then decided to try a selection of tapas from around the world, including a very generous portion of succulent chicken wings in a Moroccan charmoula with harissa spice and cool sour cream. Manager David helped us choose our main courses as everything on the menu is set to get your mouth watering. We were served delicate and perfectly flavoured salmon and smoked haddock fish cakes and an equally carefully created chargrilled duck salad by staff who are both professional and friendly.
I am not surprised that they are busiest at lunchtimes when a short office break becomes an excellent opportunity to eat well, and the bar also enjoys the return of many regular, very satisfied customers. So next time you find yourself on Brindleyplace or Newhall Street, pop in - you'll be very glad you did.
