Rest & Be Thankful
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
So, after a bracing day hiking through the breathtaking countryside of west Somerset, what you really need is a comfortable place to rest your bones, a hearty meal and probably a pint of some apple or hops-based refreshment. Arrive at the Rest and the reasoning behind the name becomes apparent. Venture into the traditional bar and thaw out with a coffee or cool off with a cider, before deciding what to eat. Keep it classic with garlic and herb mushrooms to start, or tantalise your tastebuds with Thai prawns. You need a substantial main, so any choice from the grill will do, served with chips, peas, onion rings, tomatoes and mushrooms; or delve into a heap of Exmoor sausages and mash with vegetables and lashings of red onion gravy. If you're spending the next day walking, you'll need to keep your strength up, so make sure you finish with a traditional pudding served with clotted cream.
If all that food has made you sleepy, head to one of the plush en-suite rooms and get your head down. Never has an inn had such an appropriate name.
