High Street, Porlock, TA24 8PS
If you're lucky enough to be visiting the pretty village of Porlock, or are even luckier and live there, you'd be well advised to visit The Lorna Doone. A perfect place to stay if holidaying in the area, this family-run hotel has 11 beautiful rooms to let, as well as a licensed bar and restaurant.

There is no better place to refuel when travelling through Porlock - stop for lunch and enjoy the hot and cold servery, where you can choose from a selection of hot meat and vegetarian dishes, and cold dishes and salads for just £6.95. Visit in the evenings and be treated to some delicious restaurant fare. Start with a delicate prawn, avocado and apple tian - light with fresh ingredients - before moving on to Somerset chicken, rich with cider, cinnamon and cream. Other interesting mains include leg of duck with apple and bacon, venison steak with damson sauce, and traditionally-smoked haddock on peppered new potatoes and spinach - high-quality local ingredients are treated simply and elegantly to let their natural flavours shine through.

Proprietors Dick and Toni take obvious pride in The Lorna Doone. Toni has even visited Thailand in order to learn the art of Thai cookery, enabling her to bring the aromatic flavours to the people of Porlock. The menus change regularly to reflect the couple's interest in cuisine, and theme nights ensure that fun, as well as gourmet food, is always on the menu.
