Hidden amidst the beautiful Quantock Hills is the historic village of Bicknoller. Picture-postcard pretty, it is an idyll of thatched cottages, country churches, rambling brooks and manor houses. But what village could be truly called quintessentially English without a pub to call its own' The Bicknoller Inn is just that, complete with inglenook fireplace, flagstone floor and thatched roof. It is believed that a hostelry has stood on the site for some 500 years, and the age-old traditions of welcome, rest and refuel are as important today as they have always been.

'The Bick', as it is affectionately known locally, is not just a pub; it also boasts a lovely restaurant, ideal for whiling away a chilly winter's eve with something hearty and delicious. For sunny summer afternoons, The Bick's beer garden can't be beaten - keep your eyes open for the wild rabbits that hop about enjoying the inn's hospitality too.

So, what can you expect to eat' Well, this is traditional British pub food at its best, complemented by an à la carte menu with fresh fish dishes, local meats and plenty of variation. If popping in for lunch on the hop, then the selection of baguettes and ploughman's lunches will have you in snack heaven. The rustic baguettes are brimming with a plethora of tasty fillings like smoked salmon and cream cheese, and come served with potato salad. The ploughman's presents a cacophony of country pickled crunchiness and are as filling as they are wholesome. Courtesy of the à la carte, start with deep-fried Somerset Brie with sweet chilli sauce and bitter leaves and continue with seared and roasted salmon fillet marinated with lemongrass, chilli and thyme, served with dressed salad and new potatoes, or select from rib-eye or sirloin steaks with all the trimmings.

But, if the thought of going out for the evening, even if it is to this delightful village pub, requires just a little too much energy, you can always opt to take advantage of their Monday night takeaway service and tuck into the best fish and chips for miles around.
