The Manor Hotel West Bexington is a picturesque 12th-Century coastal inn, which offers a wonderful combination of flagstone floors, Jacobean oak panelling and comfortable en-suite bedrooms. The business has been created and is run by mother-and-daughter team Jenni Simmonds and Gemma Saisi who together with head chef Brian Maidment produce delicious home-cooked meals using the abundance of fresh produce available locally, some of which is home grown. The character cellar bar is a warm and welcoming haven in winter. Summertime meals can be taken outside in the beer garden or in the conservatory, both with excellent views of Chesil Beach and the World Heritage Jurassic Coast beyond. There is an excellent selection of quality wines, homemade cordials, Scrumpy, real ales and other traditional beverages to choose from. To start, my partner ordered delicious homemade fish cakes with a tarragon and chilli dip, and I had the chef's homemade soup. Our main courses were of the same high standard: line-caught sea bass with seasonal vegetables and homemade steak pie with hand-cut chips. All the desserts are homemade and we chose sticky toffee pudding and creme brûlée with strawberries; what a pleasure. After coffee we were treated to a glass of locally produced mead - a delightful end to a truly enjoyable evening. Jenni told us that her home-produced cream teas are a firm afternoon favourite so, building on this success, in the autumn she is opening a tea lounge offering speciality teas, homemade sandwiches and pastries.
