Set in the pretty town of Sherborne, this 17th-Century public house is the perfect place to relax. The low ceiling beams, flagstone flooring and old brick walls all add to the character of the building and create a cosy ambience.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere with a cold beer, or choose something from the delicious selection of food - all handmade on the premises using only the freshest, regional produce. The individual Camembert and the homemade chicken liver paté were particularly good and my hearty cheeseburger, served with hand-cut chips and homemade coleslaw, was superb. A dish of Thai tiger prawn, crab meat and mango curry also proved an exceptional example of the calibre of food at The White Hart. When you dine here, one thing is assured: all the food is beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. We decided to treat ourselves to a dessert each. My guest chose the lemon and white chocolate cheesecake which was fluffy and light with a buttery biscuit base, and I was tempted with the dark chocolate marquise - a rich and velvety smooth truffle. After our meal we enjoyed a walk around the historic town, which was a lovely way to end our evening.

The service at The White Hart is as good as the food. The staff offer a warm and friendly welcome to all who enter, and will happily accommodate large parties and families with children
