Sitting on the Harbour Inn's fantastic beach terrace, you can easily lose yourself in the stunning surroundings of the Jurassic Coast. This is a magical spot in which to enjoy a cool glass of wine or a refreshing pint; probably one of the finest settings in all of Dorset.

We stepped inside the cosy pub and were greeted like old friends. The walls inside are lined with local artwork - a definite nod to the pub's pride in its home town. This pride extends to the food too. With the bay on the doorstep, fresh fish is in abundance - the specials board offered Lyme Bay bass and skewered Lyme Bay scallops with king prawns. The meat doesn't travel far to get here either - carnivores will love the likes of slow-roasted Devon pork belly.

Choosing a main course was a difficult task, but eventually I plumped for the trio of West Country fish, while my partner was allured by the classic fish pie. My dish, featuring hake, turbot and gurnard, was stunning; each fish cooked to fall-from-the-fork perfection. My companion's fish pie was hearty and came steaming with rich, tempting aromas - I couldn't resist a mouthful. It proved beautifully seasoned and brimming with the flavours of the sea. Next time you're in Lyme Regis - or anywhere nearby for that matter - be sure to call in at the Harbour Inn for a true taste of local tradition
