Stepping in through the entrance porch made from a giant copper tun, we were struck by the impressive interior of this first-rate establishment. Fantastically high ceilings and enormous windows ensure the space feels light and airy, while comfy chairs and country house-style decor lend a relaxed, amiable feel.
As we climbed the vast wooden staircase we noticed a mezzanine overlooking the pantry – a great place to relax and people-watch while enjoying a tasty meal or drink with friends. We settled at our table on the top floor and found ourselves in the most spectacular dining room, boasting vast windows with far-reaching views and a wonderful art collection.
The menu offers a tantalising selection of dishes to suit all tastes, but the garlic tiger prawns cooked in garlic butter were too good to turn down, and came neatly presented on a wooden platter with malted sourdough bread. My partner’s duck hash was just as tasty, providing an excellent opening to the meal. I followed with perfectly cooked British rose veal tenderloin, while my partner’s pan-fried lamb medallions diffused an incredible aroma that set our senses alight. To round off what was a delectable meal, we enjoyed refreshing Dorset pear sorbet and an indulgent apple and sultana crumble with Badger beer toffee sauce.
The Duchess of Cornwall is a wonderful environment in which to relax and enjoy a top-notch culinary experience with loved ones.
