Cheselbourne, Dorchester, DT2 7NW

Head inland to Cheselbourne, a quiet little village nestled in Dorset’s finest rolling countryside, to find the Rivers Arms. Inside this charming pub you’ll find peace, tranquillity and a warm welcome from the pub’s owners, Victor and Anne. Surrounded by hillside views, the pub has five delightful eating areas to choose from, all of which are tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished. Upstairs, the spacious covered deck makes for a serene place in which to dine al fresco while taking in the countryside views.

Chef Victor has crafted an original, constantly changing menu with a host of tempting dishes, while Anne heads up the front of house ensuring everyone feels part of the family. On the day we dined, we found a variety of delectable dishes such as beef casserole, turkey goulash, slow-cooked belly pork and roast beef. I opted for a delicious bowl of Mexican pork chilli served with fluffy rice and a cooling mint yoghurt, while my

partner revelled in the aromatic Thai red curry. We followed with a fabulously creamy bread and butter pudding with custard, and a slice of tasty apple tart with ice cream. A great range of local ale, cider and wine makes Rivers Arms an excellent option for a drink with friends. For top-notch food and drink at astonishingly reasonable prices, head for the countryside and seek out Rivers Arms – you won’t regret it.
