A thatched village pub with a fantastic reputation for food, hospitality and local ales, The Three Horseshoes is simply not to be missed.

Having worked for the Marriott brand, and more recently with Rick Stein on a new restaurant project, award-winning chef Jaap Schep presents truly inspiring dishes - taking the very best ingredients from the region and creating stunning specials and classic pub food with a unique twist. Each visit is overseen by Jaap's wife, Hannah, who offers a warm welcome to local villagers and tourists alike, ensuring everyone feels at home.

We visited on a warm summer's evening so we perused the seasonal menu in the secluded landscaped garden while sipping pints of Palmers beer. The menu features traditional favourites such as fish and chips, and sausage and mash, in addition to a range of regularly changing specials created using produce from local suppliers, when possible.

I began with squid, lime mayo and spring onion; the squid succulent and flavoured by sea salt and Szechuan pepper, whilst fresh chilli provided a welcome kick. My partner's crab and prawn cocktail looked equally tasty. Next up was slow-cooked pork belly, accompanied by mash, red cabbage and a shallot jus. The pork was delightful and practically fell apart - perfect. Choosing from the specials menu, my partner plumped for the risotto -an amalgamation of king scallops, tiger prawns and chorizo with garden peas and Parmesan cheese. Thankfully, we had enough room for dessert, and opted for the salted caramel brownie and the rhubarb creme brulée, both of which disappeared rather quickly. Showcasing a selection of local cheeses alongside quince jelly, celery and crackers, the cheeseboard also caught my eye, prompting the planning of a return visit.

Jaap and Hannah clearly have a great passion for running The Three Horseshoes in terms of both cuisine and hospitality. We would wholeheartedly recommend popping by yourself when you have the chance
