At The New Inn, owned by acclaimed chef Malcolm Whybrow and his wife Karen, you'll receive first-class hospitality and some fine food to boot. During chillier months visitors are invited to warm up beside log fires while sampling one of the many different ales from South West breweries. In summer, many choose to wine and dine alfresco in the pretty gardens. Sampling the cuisine at this delightful, stylish country inn on the edge of Dartmoor is a lovely way to spend an evening. Venison and rabbit terrine with chutney and Melba toast and baked avocado and crab topped with mature Cheddar and served with Gruyère shortbread are among the starter options. Malcolm's considerable experience informs the menu, which utilises the best of Devonshire's larder. A carefully considered wine list enhances the selection. Main courses might include collops of Somerset pork fillet with rich cider sauce, coarse-grain mustard, apple fritters, Bramley apple compote and crackling, served with sautéed potatoes and fresh veg. Alternatively, perhaps try pan-seared calf's liver and smoked bacon with red onion marmalade, red wine gravy and sage mash. Look out for seafood options too - these are Malcolm's forte. Dessert is an indulgent affair, thanks to Trinity College creme brulée with almond biscuit, New Inn toffee meringue and ginger and rhubarb Bakewell with chunky ginger ice cream and rhubarb compote
