The Tamar Belle
For a unique dining experience that recreates the glamour of the heyday of rail travel, step aboard The Tamar Belle. Based at the Victorian railway station of Bere Ferrers, facing the heritage centre, The Tamar Belle invites visitors to dine and sleep in converted 1930s railway carriages and revel in the golden glow of bygone days.
The luxurious sleeper cars combine the best of the past and present, with original carriage partitions, luggage racks and elegant wooden trim, but also comfy modern double or twin beds, en-suite bathrooms and tea- and coffee-making facilities. Meals are served in the restaurant and kitchen car by stewards in Pullman-style uniforms, making you feel like a VIP. Menus change daily and everything is made from the finest and freshest local produce. As all evening meals are by prior arrangement, the chefs will be happy to provide vegetarian alternatives if requested. During the daytime, drinks and snacks, including indulgent cream teas, can be enjoyed in the saloon lounge, while the open goods truck serves as a summer patio.
The Tamar Belle is set on a secluded island and makes an ideal base for exploring the picturesque Tamar Valley. It is only an hour’s drive from Exeter and there’s plenty of on-site parking, but if you prefer, you can still arrive by train from Plymouth and the team will be happy to meet you at the station. Suitable for family gatherings, private parties or simply a day out, The Tamar Belle is a great choice.
