Rosemoor Garden Kitchen

Voted 'Top Garden to visit in the UK' by Which? Travel Magazine and a popular venue for wedding ceremonies and receptions, RHS Rosemoor Garden Kitchen, just outside Great Torrington, is a fantastic place boasting fine food and beautiful surroundings. From Sunday roasts to cold platters, sandwiches to cakes and pastries, the menu features produce grown in the gardens as well as from local farms, and offers plenty of choice for all diners.

We visited on a cold, rainy Sunday and were glad to be warmed by a delicious leek and potato soup presented with tasty, fresh rolls. My partner followed the soup starter with a Mediterranean casserole packed with Devon beef and a selection of mixed roasted vegetables, whilst I plumped for the delicious spinach and ricotta lasagne with roasted peppers and tomato sauce. For dessert I simply couldn't resist the lemon polenta cake with tangy lemon drizzle sauce - it was heaven on a plate - and my partner savoured the scrummy homemade pear and ginger cake.

Menus vary from week to week and on Sundays there's a separate menu altogether. Wine is also available, along with ales from Torrington and a range of pressés, organic juices and freshly brewed coffee. You do not need to be a member of the RHS to visit the Rosemoor Garden Kitchen - although you may be tempted to join once you've had a slice of the action
