Hole in the Wall

6 Park Lane, Torquay, TQ1 2AU

With a rich history as Torquay’s oldest pub, the Hole in the Wall has long been one of the area’s favourite watering holes. It can be found within easy reach of the harbour and a short stroll from the shops. From the smugglers of old to those still finding refuge under the pub’s low-beamed ceilings, the Hole in the Wall has been catering for the needs of regulars and travellers alike for centuries. It’s a perfectly preserved Torquay institution, and as such boasts a diverse but decisively traditional offering of great food and top-quality beer. Expect your favourite ale from brewers such as Butcombe, Otter and Sharp’s Doom Bar and make the most of the seasonal guest ale and traditional cider on offer.

The menu boasts a wide range of pub classics as well as a choice of irresistible dishes showcasing locally caught seafood. We would recommend that you start with pan-seared scallops and chorizo served with pea purée and lemon, or a bowl of fresh mussels cooked in white wine, garlic, butter, shallots and cream, served with crusty bread. If you’re not craving seafood, the garlic mushrooms are an admirable choice.

When it comes to the main course, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Ranging from perfectly cooked steak, beefburgers and homemade steak and ale pie to delicately cooked lemon sole fillets with seasonal veg, potatoes and caper beurre noisette, plates cater for a wide range of tastes and dietary requirements. Vegan diners are offered a spicy vegetable burger, which is served alongside salad and hand-cut chips.

No matter your appetite, you won’t want to miss out on the scrumptious range of desserts on offer at the Hole in the Wall. Indulge in the likes of Dutch apple tart glazed with apricot jam, lemon and lime cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding and banoffee pie. Your choice comes served with fresh cream, ice cream or custard – what better way to conclude a satisfying three-course meal?
