Opened in July 2014 in the seaside town of Teignmouth, this family-run venue offers guests a seamless blend of both English and Italian cuisine.
You can pop by in the morning for one of the excellent cooked breakfasts; the full English includes bacon, sausages, free-range eggs, hash browns and toast with beans and mushrooms. For lunch you can choose from a range of tempting light bites, or select a hearty meal from the extensive English or Italian main menus. You can even indulge in a scrumptious cream tea or sample one of the tasty homemade cakes. We visited in the evening when the emphasis is on traditional Italian favourites. We were tempted by chef Marco’s speciality, medallioni di manzo – an 8oz fillet steak topped with Parma ham and Cheddar in a Bordelaise sauce. We also noticed the stone-baked pizzas, which were thin and crispy, and came with an impressive choice of toppings. However, in the end I plumped for rich beef lasagne with garlic bread and salad, while my companion enjoyed tagliatelle in a creamy sauce with chicken, mushrooms and peas.
There’s a definite focus on fresh, local, high-quality ingredients and this really brings out the delectable flavours. To finish, choose from a superb array of homemade cakes and gelato – my Parma Violet gelato was exceptionally good.
