The Bay Hotel
British

Built for the Earl of Devon in 1869, The Bay Hotel has seen its fair share of classy clientele. The building occupies a prime stretch of Teignmouth’s seafront and looks out over the pier, out to sea. Imposing yet elegant, the hotel has become a local landmark.
The impressive, stately facade is matched by the hotel’s interior – standards have been kept high since the hotel’s grand beginnings. The high-ceilinged entrance hall leads to myriad rooms, which are all luxurious. In the bar, guests can take time to revive after a long journey by sitting on the chaise longue and admiring the charming view while sipping a tipple from the well-stocked bar. The owner and staff are dedicated to ensuring guests are relaxed and comfortable at all times.
Further refreshment is available in the restaurant across the hall, where a dining room dappled with natural light awaits. Tables are adorned with sparkling cutlery and gleaming glassware, and diners are served sumptuous, top-notch cuisine created by a kitchen team with extensive culinary experience and knowledge. Diners might begin with chicken liver parfait with red onion and chilli jam, before continuing with a hearty classic chicken, leek and bacon pie. Alternatively, you might fancy pan-fried loin of pork in a mushroom, cream and sherry sauce, or plump for confit duck leg, served with duck and chicken ballotine, red cabbage, and red wine and redcurrant jus from the à la carte menu. Sweet treats like whiskey rice pudding with fruit compote and raspberry brûlée with orange sugar crust are certainly worth savouring.
Throughout the summer months a range of outdoor activities take place on the sloping lawns, and guests can relax on the terrace while keeping an eye on their children in the playground opposite. For a personal dining experience, guests can order a traditional afternoon tea to enjoy in the comfort of their private accommodation – a generous portion of Devonshire cream will arrive alongside sweet strawberry jam as well as, of course, fresh scones and a pot of tea. There can surely be no better way to spend a relaxed afternoon.
