Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Surrounded by luscious gardens in the charming village of Shaldon, The Ness is a handsome Georgian property that’s been refurbished to offer different socialising areas, which are adorned with vintage boating memorabilia. It’s the perfect spot for whiling away the hours while taking in the stunning views over the Teign Estuary and beaches.
As part of the Hall & Woodhouse family – brewers of award-winning Badger beer – The Ness works hard to be all that a good local should: family- and dog-friendly, with relaxed but slick service, and an interesting food and drinks selection, while offering a real sense of community with regular lively events.
The menu includes hearty classics like steaks, burgers and beer-battered fish and chips as well as seasonal mains and award-winning pies. Vegetarian and vegan options are available too – the delicious vegan shepherd’s pie is one of the most popular dishes.
We shared a generous vegetarian board of falafels, hummus and flatbreads with olives to start. The main course special of pork belly and Dauphinoise potatoes comes highly recommended and my partner’s chicken Caesar burger was packed with flavour. We indulged in a classic Eton Mess and scoops of rum and raisin Salcombe Dairy ice cream to finish while watching the boats coming and going along the river. The Ness is an idyllic spot for lazy days and laid-back nights with friends or family.
