Amidst the winding streets of Shaldon resides the London Inn. Overlooking the village green and just off the banks of the Teign estuary, this inn has everything you could want from a pub. Inside, the atmosphere is vibrant and friendly, and our host Tim greeted us as locals. He introduced us to a menu that any would envy. The comfortable, traditional bar stocks a selection of ever-changing guest ales along with lager, cider and some outstanding local wine.
We kicked things off with the antipasto sharing platter, though I was tempted by the Cornish poppy seed and sesame breaded sardine fillets from the specials board. The platter was presented Mediterranean-style with a great assortment of charcuterie, olives and feta with balsamic dip and rustic bread. For mains, lamb and mint hotpot with buttered mash and veg was a winner, and the roasted cod topped with sunblushed tomato passata and Friulano cheese gratin is a favourite at the inn – it was easy to see why. Moving on, we demolished the vanilla and espresso gelato, and the London Mess accompanied by tangy fruit compote, homemade meringues and ice cream. Welcoming families – including dogs – this inn is one for all to make a beeline for.
