The Country Table Cafe
We called in for lunch at the family-run Country Table Café on a busy Saturday lunchtime and felt at home straight away. The staff were friendly and attentive and the menu varied and inviting, with an impressive selection of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options among the breakfasts, sandwiches, snacks and cakes. I chose Thai-style red lentil, coconut and spinach soup, which was deliciously warming and spicy, served with gluten-free bread. My companion picked Greek meze of hummus, marinated feta and black olives served with warm pitta bread and a salad garnish. We also shared a healthy bowl of mixed leaves, sundried tomatoes, kidney beans, pearl barley and cauliflower from the salad bar. There is a great range of drinks to choose from, including teas, Italian Rocca coffees, milkshakes, fruit juices and smoothies. If you like The Country Table Café – and I’m sure you will – visit the owners’ other cafés at the library and the hospital.
