The Rock Inn

Haytor Vale, TQ13 9XP
Haytor is one of the South West's most dramatic landmarks, and just a short walk from the tor you'll find one of the area's top dining inns. The Rock Inn has been a coaching inn since the mid 18th Century and retains its traditional charm while offering all the comforts a modern visitor could desire. After exploring the Dartmoor wilderness, there can surely be nothing better than returning to one of The Rock's beautifully decorated guest rooms, or enjoying a drink in the pretty beer garden.

Indeed, following a ramble or cycle around the local countryside, stopping by The Rock for a bite to eat is highly recommended - the inn has been given an AA award for culinary excellence. The kitchen team uses the best fresh fish, meat, game and locally grown produce to create polished British dishes, so menus change regularly depending on the ingredients available. To start, you might find dishes such as seared scallops served with chorizo risotto and pesto or balsamic-poached fig and Parma ham salad, while mains may include the likes of Devon lamb rump with fondant potato, asparagus and olive dressing or lunchtime favourites like traditional fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce. Just don't forget to leave room for dessert - you'll find it hard to turn down sweet treats such as the caramelised lemon tart with ginger ice cream
