Mount Pleasant Road, Dawlish Warren, EX7 0NA

A family-run inn that dates back to the 18th century, Mount Pleasant Inn can be found in the picturesque seaside resort of Dawlish Warren. Its setting affords this friendly restaurant and bed and breakfast outstanding views across the Exe Estuary and it’s just a stone’s throw from the South West Coast Path, which offers a beautiful walk along the clifftops.

Mount Pleasant’s simple but stylish rooms provide a comfy place to rest your head – there’s nothing like being lulled to sleep by the sound of waves. Each room boasts its own sense of character – some even have their own balcony – and overnight guests can also enjoy the inn’s famous breakfasts.

Over in the restaurant, the menu is focused on providing good-quality British fare, with generous portions offering great value for money. Starters range from Mediterranean tapas to a traditional prawn cocktail, and the deep-fried potato skins – served with blue cheese dip – are a perfect, mouth-watering appetiser. The selection of mains is equally impressive: there’s something for every palate, with dishes like chicken curry and homemade fishcakes available alongside classics such as sausage and mash, and grilled lamb chops with cranberry sauce. Additionally, there’s a sumptuous vegan chickpea and spinach pie on offer, as well as classic spinach and ricotta cannelloni – perfect for veggie diners.
