The Artichoke Inn sits snug within the Devonshire countryside and boasts a wealth of history, dating back before Domesday. The inn was believed to have originally been a base for the Crusaders, who returned from Jerusalem with the Jerusalem artichoke, hence the pub’s name. Today, Sam, the host of this gorgeous thatched inn, takes pleasure in providing a range of high-quality, refined dishes that utilise local ingredients. Everything on the varied menu is cooked to order and whipped up by the dedicated chef, Mike.
Starters of hoisin-glazed duck lollipops with dressed leaves and pickled ginger, and the crispy courgette fritter with mango mayonnaise set the bar high. From the grill, the juicy Artichoke Inn burger has gained heaps of fans, as has the delicious home-cured corned beef hash topped with veal jus and a crispy duck egg.
There are plenty of tipples to choose from, and the team is proud of the Cask Marque-accredited ales and hugely impressive gin collection behind the bar. A traditional roast is available each Sunday, so why not treat yourself to a meal and walk it off with a stroll in the surrounding countryside? A warm welcome from locals and the staff is guaranteed, as is the likelihood of you wanting to visit this gem again.
