Furzeleigh Mill Hotel
Furzeleigh Mill Hotel is a stunning 500-year-old listed building, which sits on the edge of the Devon Expressway nestled in pretty grounds and overlooks luscious views. If you’re looking for a place to socialise comfortably whilst enjoying great food, this venue is the place to visit.
Newly taken over by a friendly family, the hotel has undergone a major makeover: white walls, dark oak beams and tables, and dark blue seats create a modern yet welcoming place for you to unwind and enjoy a feast of delicious cuisine. You can even stay the night in one of the 11 bedrooms and try a selection of gins; the menu boasts 45 different gins and counting, ranging from chocolate orange flavour to clotted cream. The garden has also been refurbished, and now boasts a stunning outdoor seating, making it the perfect place for a cream tea complete with the chefs’ sublime secret recipe scones and homemade cakes.
Our evening began with succulent scallops with crispy bacon and a smooth caulifl ower purée. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the dish was perfectly balanced and presented beautifully – a testament to the chef’s talent and attention to detail. To follow we chose the duck breast served with redcurrant sauce and the freshest spring vegetables – a reminder that everything here is fresh, seasonal and locally sourced where possible. The duck was pink with delightfully crisp skin and was complemented by the sweet sauce. Rich and indulgent Baileys chocolate torte served with ice cream rounded off our stellar meal.
For a fun night out with friends and family there’s also an array of events such as gin nights, food and wine pairing evenings and even live music on the terrace. This tucked-away venue is a hidden gem not to be missed. Whether you’re looking for somewhere to stop for a quick bite to eat, enjoy a delicious three-course meal, or even plan an event or celebration to remember, the team at Furzeleigh Mill Hotel will welcome you with open arms.
