The Trout Inn has been welcoming guests for over 700 years. Resting on the banks of the Thames where monks once provided alms, Bob and Penny now provide a warm welcome, hospitality and food. Entering the rustic beamed bar, you're greeted by friendly staff and an excellent selection of ales and lagers. You can choose to eat in the intimate restaurant; however, the traditional bar and roaring log fire won out for us. Selecting from the extensive menu is made easier by the advice given by head chef Penny. Starters range from creamy homemade corn and pepper soup to spicy crab cakes and farmhouse paté. Following this, you could plump for a rich beef and ale stew with dumplings, or pheasant casserole with sloe gin. However, what better to warm the cockles than a whole trout in celery and bacon sauce' A must at The Trout. All dishes come with a healthy serving of freshly cooked seasonal vegetables and a choice of potatoes. Traditional pudding aficionados will be in heaven with their 'world famous' Malteser and white chocolate cheesecake made by Emma, banoffee pie, treacle tart and bread-and-butter pudding amongst those crying out to be eaten. It was pleasing to also see menu items marked with dietary advice and the offer to cater for any special dietary needs. With a packed diary of music nights and special events, you could even hire the Creel Bar with its marquee for your own special day by the river.
