It is impossible to do justice to the charm of JRooL Bistro, one of Stroud's finest eateries. The building dates back to 1645 and was formerly tavern stables, but is now an intimate bistro, seating up to 40 people for breakfast, lunch or dinner, with a beautiful courtyard. The daily changing menu focuses on seasonal, locally sourced produce, with fresh seafood procured from nearby Cornwall and Devon. Even with such a concise menu you'll find it hard to choose. A typical evening might include mushroom and walnut ravioli, followed by shellfish and saffron stew with rouille and garlic croutes, all finished with a glazed lemon tart. Should the confit duck leg with baked potato cake and red wine jus grace the menu on your visit, I certainly recommend you order it. This family-run restaurant opened in 2007 and has steadily built up a reputation for its superb food - after one visit you'll know exactly why.
