Bath House Hotel & Oriental Aroma
Chinese and East Asian
On arrival we were warmly greeted by the delightful owner, Karine, and shown to our table. We ordered a couple of glasses of wine from an extensive selection before settling down to peruse the menu. We were pleased to see the use of local produce, with meat supplied by award-winning Colyton butchers and fish supplied directly from Weymouth. To start, we ordered the diver-caught Portland scallops (as recommended by Karine) and we were not disappointed. The scallops were plump and succulent, steamed in their shells with chilli, spring onions, ginger and soy sauce; they were full of flavour and incredibly moreish. The other starter, the hors d'oeuvre platter for two, was not to be outdone though - chicken satay, crispy spring rolls, prawn toast, pork ribs in honey and crispy seaweed; all were absolutely delicious. For mains we ordered deep-fried king prawns with peppercorn salt, sliced fillet steak with capital sauce, and Thai green chicken curry. Each dish shone thanks to its exceptional ingredients and beautiful flavours, clearly demonstrating the skills of the chef. The beef fillet was tender to the point of melting in the mouth and the deep-fried king prawns with peppercorn salt are something we would gladly drive from Bristol for again.
After all this delicious food, we only had room to share a mango and passion fruit sorbet with raspberry and mango sauce for dessert, but for those with a larger appetite there was an impressive choice of sweets including Baileys cream cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding and a selection of Swiss ice cream. If after the great food and service you don't fancy the drive home, we can definitely recommend booking into one of Bath House Hotel's six en-suite rooms, each one individually and beautifully decorated. With so much on offer, Oriental Aroma will have you coming back time and time again.
