A country inn set within a beautiful Devon village, The Journey's End Inn is a wonderful place to stop off and be spoilt.

We dined in style within the inn's billiard room, decorated with authentic memorabilia and warmed by candlelight, while in the adjoining room, one of the four open fires crackled away. Our starters of crispy duck leg spring rolls with green chilli and sesame dressing, and asparagus with poached ricotta and aubergine compote, promptly arrived at the table. These truly original dishes had obviously been homemade with care and featured fresh produce gathered from the local area.

My guest enjoyed sautéed cauliflower with black fungus, sweet pea, and lemon linguine, while I relished the charred Marridge Farm rib-eye beef with panko onion, chips, tenderstem broccoli, and walnut aioli. The beef was melt-in-the-mouth delicious and the chips fried in beef dripping until crispy. A creamy, crunchy Eton Mess and comforting pear and berry three-nut crumble completed the meal and filled us up nicely. Both were washed down with pints of thirst-quenching local ales. Dog-friendly, family-orientated and relaxing, The Journey's End Inn is the ideal place to rest and recuperate
