The Millbrook Inn
The Millbrook Inn is a proper country pub for locals, tourists and foodies alike. Residing in a 16th-century building, this pub is full of rustic charm complete with a log fire, a stunning brook and gorgeous sun terrace. Owner Charlie had been a regular for 30 years before deciding to take on the pub and become part of the wonderful community he knows and loves.
The journey from Salcombe to The Millbrook is an institution in Salcombe, with boaties making their way up to the village pontoon under their own steam, or picked up from the ferry steps by the pub’s own 90s Landrover Defender and shuttled through the lanes to the pub’s front door.
The pub is recommended by The Michelin Guide as one of the best places to eat in the country for 2019, and also received The Good Pub Guide’s award for the best pub in Devon for 2019. The kitchen is headed up by a duo of talented chefs who have both worked at the Michelin-starred Fat Duck; they have taken the skills they learned to create their very own unique and exciting menu, which changes every month in order to highlight the quality of the local and seasonal produce available.
What makes this pub extra special is that the kitchen works directly with the finest local butchers – one of the staff members even breeds her own pigs for the restaurant – to ensure the finest meat is used, and the chefs butcher this local meat in-house. As you can expect, the best cuts of beef feature heavily on the menu: all cuts are hung and aged for over 30 days to ensure a rich and intense flavour. The 16oz rib-eye cooked to order is a highlight. Foraged herbs are picked by the team and used to enhance the flavour of dishes, including the unctuous carrot and coriander soup with hedgerow and wild garlic.
Save room for dessert, as the likes of chocolate delice served with orange and passion fruit marmalade are sure to satisfy any sweet-tooth. Why not complement your meal with local ale, a glass of fine wine, Champagne or Prosecco?
