The Manor Inn
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Since taking over The Manor Inn three years ago, owners Chris and Jon have put their stamp on the place while ensuring it remains rooted in the community. We visited on a Thursday, when The Manor Inn runs its meal deal and quiz night: two main courses and a bottle of wine from just £25. Unsurprisingly the place was packed and the atmosphere was lively and sociable.
This quirky building, dating from 1869, has cosy informal spaces and large dining rooms, and can accommodate everything from an intimate supper, to lunch for all the family. The menu ranges from lighter dishes for smaller appetites, to the full three courses for those who wish to savour the experience. We shared Mediterranean antipasti to start, which included a delectable selection of meat, cheese, peppers, olives and warm bread, beautifully presented on a rustic slate. As it was meal-deal night, we simply had to try a couple of tender cuts of meat: succulent 10oz rump and 8oz gammon steaks, which came with field mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, dressed salad, onion rings and hand-cut chips cooked in beef dripping. The menu changes with the seasons, and favourites include the celebrated Manor Inn pie, fish specials from nearby Brixham, and a creamy chestnut mushroom stroganoff.
There are five beautifully appointed en-suite guest rooms, dogs are very welcome, and there is a pool table and a large car park.
