This attractive Georgian building has undergone extensive refurbishment, resulting in an intimate and relaxing nonsmoking dining area boasting warm honeyed woods, elegant décor, modern yet subtle lighting and a friendly welcome. Run for 5 years by Alison and Serin Aubrey and friend Shonagh Simmons (protégés of Sir Terrence Conran), this restaurant combines all the elements of a successful enterprise: a passionate and dedicated team, an innovative menu and excellent service.
'We aim to provide simply made, good food,' said Alison, and the quality of the locally sourced fresh produce is evident. The family own a farm that provides the lamb, and will soon be growing all the fruit, vegetables and herbs. The menu offers excellent fresh fish, meat and vegetarian options. Smoked salmon blinis - complimentary bite-sized temptations - offer a hint of the delights to follow. A starter of red mullet wrapped in Parma ham successfully combines succulent fish with a salty twist; the bacon frisse and poached egg salad is a tasty explosion of soft egg, crispy croutons and meaty bacon (from £6.50).

The fillet steak melts in the mouth, and a vegetarian risotto of leek, roasted garlic and marscapone combines simple ingredients resulting in a luxuriously creamy, satisfying dish (from £14.50). Desserts you can't refuse include poached pear with ginger ice cream on shortbread, or a trio of white, milk and dark chocolate in a chocoholic's fantasy (from £3.50). The extensive wine list supports Europe and the New World.

Anzac Street Bistro offers an exceptional dining experience with beautifully presented, well-flavoured foods of the highest quality.
