Carriages Restaurant at Alveston House Hotel
Carriages Restaurant is housed in Alveston House Hotel, an award-winning and wonderfully charming venue. It is perfectly placed for those looking for a country retreat, as it’s easily accessible and only a short drive from Bristol.
The restaurant is an elegant venue with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The kitchen team is led by Ben Halliday, and under his direction and commitment to serving cuisine of the highest standard it has retained its AA rosette status for seven years. Having worked in Darling Harbour in Australia, Ben has a penchant for seafood dishes – think crab ravioli with fennel and peashoot salad, and pan-fried sea bass in lemon and brown shrimp butter. Alternatively, why not begin your visit with chicken ballotine enhanced by pistachios, sunblushed tomatoes and basil mayonnaise? For the main course, the rack of lamb is sure to impress. The meat is tender and incredibly moreish, and accompanied by spring onion- and herb-crushed potatoes, kale and red wine sauce. Finish on a sweet note with vanilla panna cotta, paired with poached rhubarb and honey and ginger ice cream. Complementing the fare is an extensive range of house wine, which is sold by the glass.
Visit for yourself and you’ll understand why this elegant venue has such a dedicated following. A visit in summer is highly recommended, when guests can make use of the pretty walled gardens.
